Fine Art Definition and Cast Paper Sculpture

I first learnt about this couple through an email, you know one of those that is passed on through contacts. Quite frankly this is one that I was glad to receive, the work this couple do is unbelievable the fine sculpting that goes into it, you really have to see for yourself I know you like me will be amazed at the precision of the sculpting. Take a close look at the definition of the feathers alone each one is individually crafted.

The couple met at college where they were both studying art. After leaving college Patty & Allen got married and opened their own business of advertising and raised three children. Being a very stressful business they decided to go on a completely different path of Cast Paper Sculpting. The change came about whilst Allen was taking some photographs for a brochure and realised the potential this fine art had to offer.

Cast paper sculpture has been around since the 1950's and is different fro Papier-Mache. The pulp is made from raw materials of, Cotton and Abica, then placed into molds of original clay sculptures. This process can take several months to complete from pressing and drying out the casts then the art of sculpting begins and it takes a huge amount of time and experience to complete just one of these 'Great' forms of art.

Allen & Patty Eckman are the inventors of this process known as 'The Eckman Method' of Cast paper sculpting which is their own trade mark. This has been a long process for them both which started in 1988 and now they have perfected it and as the paper is acid free they are of museum quality.

Many artists and even sculptors now use this method and find it very rewarding, just think if it wasn't for Patty and Allen using their skills an developing this process we may not have this wonderful fine art today. Also they have shared this technique so willingly for others to learn and this way it will live forever. The other great thing is, if Allen had not found that arrow head in a field all those years ago he may not of pursued his interest in the Indian culture and their materials.

This is one of those arts that will will continue for years to come, and who knows different forms of paper craft may evolve from this.
